Date night: The Wish Upon A Wedding Gala

Chris and I all dressed up for the gala.

My husband Chris and I had a fancy night out at the Ritz without the kids on Friday night when we attended the Blissful Wishes Ball for Wish Upon A Wedding. Chris even wore a tux!

The WOW Factor Cakes was happy to donate Wowee Pops to be placed at each place setting for the event that raised money to help the Carolinas chapter of the national organization so they can grant wedding wishes for couples in need.

Cortenay Matters from Carolina Wedding Design (and one of Event Planning Chairs for Wish Upon A Wedding) setting Wowee Pops out at each of the place settings.

We really had a great time at dinner, did a little dancing and I even bid on (and WON one of them!) two auction items!

What a great cause and I’m happy to be able to donate to such a good organization.

Drumroll … The Carrie Underwood Cake!

Cunningham Photo Artists

I’m really happy with the way the cake turned out and I’m dying to know what Carrie thought when she saw it. I worked really hard to incorporate special details and elements that were very Carrie!

I found a photo of her in a purple mini dress that she wears on tour and replicated the look on a bust form next to a side table with a vase filled with daisies, her favorite flowers. I also know that her dog is very important in her life, so I made a smaller cake of Ace.

We’re a little more than excited here

Because I’m creating and designing a cake (I’ve literally been working day and night in the bakery this week) for Carrie Underwood! Her concert is in Charlotte this weekend at Time Warner Cable Arena and they asked me to create a special cake for her. I might (fingers crossed, fingers crossed) get the opportunity to hand deliver the cake to Carrie on Saturday before her concert. She is really, truly one of my favorite artists so I’ve come up with a very personalized and creative cake for Carrie that I know she will just love! Stay tuned for pictures real soon!

A Coach Purse Birthday Cake for a classy lady.

I loved that C.J. Bostrom, owner of J. Major’s Bridal Boutique here in Charlotte, N.C. hired me to create and design a birthday cake for her boutique manager, Ashley.

After speaking with C.J. and learning about all of Ashley’s favorite things and her style and personality, I designed a green Coach handbag cake that I hear all the gals at J. Major’s loved!

And thanks to my neighbor (and friend) Drea Cunningham of Cunningham Photo Artists for snapping these pics before we delivered the cake!

Cake Tasting at Neiman Marcus Charlotte’s Fashion’s Night Out

I had SO much fun last Friday night at the Neiman Marcus Fashion’s Night Out event at the Charlotte store! They had one of their cosmetic product specialists from Laura Mercier do my make-up (I felt so dolled up!) and I had the opportunity to host a cake tasting to some of the most fashionable and fabulous women (and some men!) in Charlotte.

At my meeting with Kristin Jackson and Maggie Snipes (the PR department for the Charlotte store) to discuss the event and my set-up I asked them what the event colors were going to be, what the event feel and atmosphere would be like and also for the invitations and marketing materials that were being distributed (just like I ask for invitations for weddings and special events for other events when I’m planning the cake design) to create a fabulous, fashionable display cake that looked like it belonged inside a Neiman Marcus store. With words like Green, Fur, Feathers, Lace and Pearls my inspiration began….

A week later, this was my display cake…

Here is a close-up of the shoes. (All made by hand with sugar, just like all of my sugar work.)

I also brought loads of {Wowee Pops} for guests to sample along with cake samples.

Thanks so much for having me participate, Kristin and Maggie. What a great night. I can’t wait for next year! Your guests ate ALL of my cake and that’s a great sign!

Fashion’s Night Out at Neiman Marcus Charlotte.

I’ve been hard at work in the studio this week working on my display cake for the cake tasting I’ll be having at Neiman Marcus Charlotte’s Fashion’s Night Out event tonight. Based on the trends they will be hightlighting tonight — green, fur, pearls, pantsuits, pearls, lace, feathers, boots, structured handbags, capes, ponchos and vests and military — I’ve come up with something that I think is so cool! I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

I’ll be upstairs with lots of cake samples so make sure to come say hi!

Pretty in Pink: Bergen’s Duke Mansion Bridal Soiree

I loved working on the bridal shower cake for Bergen Parker for her Duke Mansion bridal luncheon. Parker’s theme was “pretty in pink” and she even asked guests to dress in shades of pink so I knew it had to be, well, PINK!

So, with inspiration from the cake I created for the Style Me Pretty Inspiration to Reality shoot a few months back, I went to work creating a pretty, pink, sparkly, feminine and girly cake!

In the cake studio working on the pink ribbon for the base of the cake.

Once the ribbon (made of rolled, then folded fondant) was on and the cake fully dusted with glitter, I added some sugar flower peonies. Each of the petals in each of these flowers were made by hand (by me) and are completely edible. My sugar flower work takes lots of patience and attention to detail but it’s one of the things about my job I love creating most.

Thank you Almond Leaf Studios for such a beautiful shot of Bergen’s cake at the Duke Mansion before the start of the shower.

And always one of my favorite shots — the cake cutting! This one is too sweet with the little munchkins just waiting patiently for their slice. Can you imagine how big around their eyes are in this photo or just how excited they are? What do you think is going through their little minds at that moment?
