Duke Mansion Grand Tasting

The Historic Duke Mansion  is one of the most beautiful locations in Charlotte. With its history, lush setting and of course that stunning black and white floor, brides can’t go wrong with a wedding at the Duke Mansion. Once a year the Mansion hosts a Grant Tasting for all of its current wedding clients and we were thrilled to provide a full dessert spread for the occasion!
As with many cakes and desserts that we create, our design inspiration came from an unexpected place, in the form of this black dress with a colorful floral print.

A big THANK YOU to wonderful wedding photographer Lauren Friday for perfectly capturing the Grand Tasting!
The centerpiece of our dessert display was a five-tiered cake hand-painted to mirror the colorful floral pattern on the inspiration dress.
While we can absolutely replicate a cake you have seen on Pinterest or in a bridal magazine, we love and excel in pulling inspiration from whatever we see around us and creating unique cakes from that inspiration.
In addition to WOW-ing customers with our cakes and cake design, we also create beautiful dessert tables like what we designed for the Grand Tasting.  Our dessert tables can include any and all of our custom desserts such as lemon bars, macarons, individual cakes, brownies and much more!
These individual cakes were iced in pink  buttercream and were brimming with flavor with our vanilla cake and raspberry  and white chocolate mousse filling.
We can make our light and airy French macarons in any color. These pretty cookies make for fun favors packaged in little bags and tied with ribbon.
Everyone loves our lemon bars!
Our cake balls can also be customized to match your color scheme or adorned with sugar flowers.
We simply love designing beautiful dessert tables. We can design your entire dessert table decor, coordinating cake stands and trays to compliment linens,  floral elements and any desired special touches. Your guests will be super impressed with the wide array of delectable desserts and we promise, they’ll want to try them all!
We can’t forget about the grooms! Grooms Cakes like this golf bag we displayed at the Grand Tasting make for a showstopping cake that your guests won’t soon forget!
From inspired wedding cakes, to dessert bars to grooms cakes there are so many ways for us to WOW you and your guests! We can’t wait to work with you!
Thanks again to the Duke Mansion for letting us be a part of your fabulous Grand Tasting and to Lauren Friday Photography for these beautiful images!

Real Wedding: Sapphire Blue, Red and Gold Wedding

To create a quatrefoil pattern, we used a textured pin to get the desired shape. Each hand painted quatrefoil piece was put on the cake one by one for perfect placement.

We loved the finished product and how it complimented the bridesmaids attire. They were absolutely stunning in blue. The color combinations in this wedding were simply gorgeous and we especially loved the bridal jewelry!

Our trio of cakes were inspired by this gorgeous  Claire Pettibone lace dress:

We’re loving the multiple cake trend that’s all the rage right now. The three cakes had intricate details including sugar flowers and layers and layers of dreamy ruffles.

Trendy Bride NC Magazine Feature

At Wow Factor Cakes, we’re fortunate to be a part of a wonderful wedding and event community in Charlotte and we simply love partnering with our fellow vendors! We’re looking forward to showing you the styled shoots we’ve been a part of recently – we promise they will WOW you!

Last week we showed you the dreamy blush and gold  styled shoot at Separk Mansion. This week’s feature is a little more modern! The kind folks at Trendy Bride NC showcased our shoot in their magazine and it is brimming with beautiful colors, modern elegance and of course, wonderful vendors.

Expertly styled by Ivy Robinson with beautiful images captured by  Crystal Stokes Photography , we  loved being part of this stunning photo shoot!

We created a unique cake that was nestled inside a “cage” made of blades of grass. The cake was placed on an acrylic cake stand which coordinated with the ghost chairs and overall modern feel of the shoot.

To match the deep purple orchids used in the flowers and as the models headpieces, we created sugar orchids to adorn the top tiers of the cake. We hand cut sugar circles to form a sphere for the top of the cake.

Dreamy Blush and Gold Wedding Styled Shoot

Last year, we had the pleasure of participating in a gorgeous styled shoot at the lovely Separk Mansion. From the blush and gold color scheme to the beautifully styled flowers and table setting, Flowers by Lingky did a fabulous job designing this dreamy shoot! Taking our inspiration from the color scheme, we provided a cake with intricate details and unique texture elements. Taken by Sarah Photography  perfectly captured each and every stunning detail of this shoot.

A full vendor list is at the bottom of this post!

Lingky, with Flowers by Lingy, talks about her inspiration for this styled shoot:

“I wanted to create something unique and extravagant. I used gold as the main color and combined it with a pale, peachy pink so it wouldn’t look too shiny or glittery.  Amy with Wow Factor Cakes perfectly connected this vision to the cake with its beautiful pink color and touches of gold.”

For the cake, we used different textural elements, hand made sugar brooches and individually placed pearls to make it elegant and have a true “WOW” factor!  We took inspiration from Lingky’s color palette of blush, gold and pale peachy pink. Handmade sugar flowers adorned the top tier and gold bows delicately wrapped around each tier.

Chic hanging flowers and lush centerpieces complimented gold chargers, textured linens and ruffled chair covers to make a gorgeous table for this styled shoot.

Just Desserts

From cake pops to French macarons, dessert tables are having a serious bridal moment. Dessert tables give your wedding guests a variety of flavors to choose from, as opposed to a single cake. Plus these diminutive confections make an easy treat on the go for the social butterflies of your reception. So for those of you brides to-be who wish to have your cake and eat it too, opting for a bite-size selection of desserts just might be a no-brainer. And for a few images of inspiration, we’ve put together a board of our small sweet favorites. Clockwise from top left: Cake shots: White Chocolate Raspberry, Tropical Delight, Pink Lemonade, Mocha, Cookies and Cream; Wowee Pops: Turtle, Red Velvet, Raspberry, Pink Lemonade, Mocha, Lemon, Almond Joy; Classic Cupcakes.

Rustic Elegance

Twig-like detailing and delicate flowers lend themselves perfectly to autumn nuptials. But with winter just around the corner, we decided to transition this multi-tiered confection to the season to come. So from hefty lace overlay to splashes of Christmas red, this cake can be easily translated to a winter wedding. Take a look at our inspiration board below! Shoes, dress, invitation, place cards, bouquet.

Dessert Pairings

Art imitates art in these runway-to-wedding-day cake-inspired pairings. A visionary can gain inspiration from anything in the world. An artist is astute to even the smallest details of the world, because even the most unadorned elements of everyday life can spark an exquisite creative concept. So for today’s pretty pairings, we’ve drawn inspiration from the ready-to-wear and couture catwalks. From stark lines of black and fuchsia to three-dimensional appliqué and whimsical blooms, these twosomes are a match made in culinary heaven.

Let’s Hear It For The Boys

It’s not an unlikely notion that both the bride and groom to-be have preconceived notions when it comes to the groom’s cake. It’s often a ‘love it or hate it’ type of wedding detail. Or maybe it’s simply a matter of budget. Either way, hear us out: Groom-centered cakes have far surpassed the singular role of wedding day sweets. With the inevitably girlie details that go into given wedding, nuptials have become so centered around the bride. So whether it’s a groom’s cake or a surprise dessert you serve at the rehearsal dinner, a cake created with his hobbies or interests in mind gives him his moment in the limelight as well, and an unforgettable reminder of the love you have for him. So here are a few of our favorites straight from the Wow Factor kitchen.
